Sedgwick County is in Kansas State and is the second-most populous county in the state after Johnson County.

The county was founded and named in 1867 after John Sedgwick, a Major General of the Union Army in the American civil war. It has many cities including Andale, Bentley, and Wichita, which is the county seat among others. Wichita also has the highest population with an estimate of around 389,255 people. The total population of the county was estimated to be 513,607 in 2018, up from 498,365 in 2010.

In early times, nomadic Native Americans occupied the land till colonialists from France invaded it in the 18th century, and through the treaty of Fontainebleau, France ceded part of the land to Spain. United States later bought back the land.
