Named after the 3rd president of USA, Thomas Jefferson, the county was founded on November 1, 1861. 

It’s almost in the center of the country; bordering 10 counties, namely:

Demographics

As of 2009, there were 229,007 housing units. The persons living below the poverty level were 8.1%, including those under the age of 18 and above 65 years. There is a composition of all races, with the majority being white people. 

According to the 2010 census, the population stood at 534,543, increasing by 1.4% from 2000 census. With a majority of people being between the ages of 25 to 44, 37 years is the median age. A report by the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that life expectancy is 80 years.
